Exploring Alaska's Coastal Wilderness

Get a sense of exploring expedition style

Unique, immersive style of travel
Exploring Southeast Alaska on our expeditions is an unrivalled experience, and your guarantee of an in-depth encounter with all its wonders. Our expedition ships are fully equipped with tools for exploration that will enable you to:

  • Venture into a land of mist shrouded fjords, tidewater glaciers and islands teeming with wildlife
  • Hike through lush forests to cascading waterfalls, and ride Zodiacs into secluded inlets to look for brown bears
  • See the Alaska undersea through live video
  • Benefit from our 30+ years of experience and relationships in Alaska to see all you came for and more

Every day is active and engaging
You’ll have the opportunity to hike over spongy earth on trails used by bears for centuries or along boardwalks built over bogs and winding through forests. You’ll take expedition landing craft past floating icebergs for closer looks at glaciers, and each day you’ll have the option to walk or kayak, and to join a different naturalist as you choose: there are no assigned groups.

Encounter iconic and abundant wildlife
Brown bears. Humpback whales. Orcas. Steller sea lions. Bald eagles. Sure-footed mountain goats on steep cliffs. The wildlife of Alaska is legendary—see it in abundance.

Travel in excellent company
Explore under the sure guidance of an expedition leader, five veteran naturalists, including a Lindblad-National Geographic certified photo instructor and an undersea specialist, plus a wellness specialist––the largest and most knowledgeable expedition team in Alaska. Their knowledge and passion for Alaska is the key to your once-in-a-lifetime experience.

About National Geographic Venture

Ship Overview
National Geographic Venture
Following the build of National Geographic Quest at Nichols Brothers shipyard, her sister ship, the 100-guest National Geographic Venture floated into the bay on Whidbey Island, becoming the 4th ship in the Lindblad fleet built at this storied PNW shipyard. In the 1970s, Nichols Brothers built the twin ships National Geographic Sea Bird and National Geographic Sea Lion, which continue to sail the waters of the west coast of North America and Central America.

Venture, like much of the wildlife she follows, is migratory. She follows the seasons from Alaska, along the coast of British Columbia, up the Columbia & Snake Rivers, and along the Baja coast and into the Sea of Cortez. In each region, her design innovations were informed by 50+ years of expedition expertise to ensure extraordinary discoveries. Larger than her sibling twin ships, Sea Bird and Sea Lion, Venture has the same shallow draft, enabling her to nimbly navigate the same inner reaches and provide the same intimate, ‘insider’ experiences of the charismatic regions we explore.

Like her sister ship Quest, Venture has dual boarding platforms, enabling our team to load two Zodiacs at once means guests get off ship quickly, to take advantage of wildlife sightings and maximize exploring time. Modern, cleaned-lined, with large expanses of glass to keep you connected to the extraordinary views, National Geographic Venture enables you to see, do and experience the best of her geographies.
